God with us

A youth came up to me once and asked me a question. "Bryan, will God really not leave me? Is He really always with me?" Many of us ask such a question as well. In fact, the Israelites, during the exile, would probably be thinking of that as well. They were about to lose their leader Moses who had been leading them all this while. But Moses answered them in a very powerful way.

[Moses] said to them, “Today I am a hundred and twenty years old. I am no longer able to get about, and the Lord has said to me, ‘You will not cross the Jordan.’ As for the Lord your God, he is about to cross over before you; he will destroy these nations before you and dispossess them. (Deuteronomy 31:2-3a)

You see, Moses did not say that the Lord will be WITH them but rather, the Lord will go BEFORE them. Which means that the Lord will go in front of them. Before they reached the place, the Lord would already be there! In another sense, it is so much as if He prepared the way for them simply because He went before them. Isn't that a wonderful promise? God is not only with us but He goes before us. This gives me the assurance that He knows my future and knows what is best for me. God with us! Emmanuel!
