"Pinky-Promise!"

When we were kids (or if you take a moment and observe kids), you will notice that they often like to make what we call "pinky-promises". A "pinky-promise" is a promise sealed with the action of hooking each others little pinky finger. Let me give you a common scenario. At night, as a mother was tucking her little girl to bed, the little girl looked up and her and said, "Mom, tomorrow night is my violin recital. Can you come?" "Yes dear," the mother replied. "Promise?" The mother hooks her pinky finger with the little girl's little pinky. "Promise." The next day, after sending the girl to school, mom goes to work and is so overwhelmed with work that the recital slipped her mind. After work, as she entered her house, she saw her little girl sitting, sobbing, tears flowing down her eyes, she looked at her mom and said, "Mom! You promised!"

Peter wrote to Christians who were facing the same problem. They knew that Jesus had promised that He will return but after so long, Jesus did not return. People were laughing at them saying, "Where is this 'COMING' that you speak of?" But look at what Peter told them in 2 Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." In simple terms, Peter was saying, "Hey guys, the Lord has not forgotten His promise! His delay is not a delay because He cannot fulfill His promise but rather is Him being patient so that EVERYONE can repent and be saved! God still keeps His promise!"

Taking a step back, take a moment and ponder, what are the things that God has promised you? It could be something specific that He has told you, or even a promise that He made in the Bible. Take a minute or two to reflect on these promises, and ask yourself, "Has God fulfilled His promises to me yet?" If so, take that moment and thank God for His blessings upon your life. If He has not, remember that God has not forgotten His promise or that He has problems in keeping His promise but that in His due time, He will fulfill His promise when we are ready. God sees WAAAAAAAAAY ahead into the future and He knows what will happen if the blessings are given before we are ready - we could be on the road to our own destruction... BOOM! His delay is not a mistake but mercy toward us! Then, thank God and trust Him that He knows what is best for us and when is the best time that we are ready to receive what He has in store for us!
